How to Get an Airtel Virtual Mastercard for Online Payments in Uganda
Many people in Uganda struggle to pay for online services like Netflix, Spotify, or Facebook Ads because they don’t have a physical bank dollar card. The good news is that you can now get an Airtel Money Virtual Mastercard directly from your phone in just a few minutes.
Airtel Uganda offers a virtual payment card (often called the Airtel Money Global Pay card) linked directly to your mobile wallet that you can use for online payments. It works exactly like a normal physical Mastercard and can be used for international and local purchases.
To get started, you don't even need a bank account. You can create your virtual card using the My Airtel App or via USSD:
- Using the App: Open the My Airtel app, navigate to the Airtel Money section, and select the "Airtel Money Global Pay Card" or "Get Card" option. Follow the simple verification steps.
- Using USSD: Simply dial
*185*7#on your Airtel line, select the Airtel Money Mastercard option, and follow the prompts to get a card.
Once you confirm with your Airtel Money PIN, Airtel will instantly generate your card details, sending you a 16-digit card number, expiry date, and CVV. Because the card is tethered directly to your Airtel Money wallet, you simply fund it by keeping enough money in your regular mobile money account. You can then use the card details for online payments anywhere Mastercard is accepted.
Keep in mind that there is usually a small service fee (often around UGX 1,000 per transaction) and a standard conversion charge for foreign currencies, so always ensure your mobile money balance has a little extra to cover the rates before making your transaction.
With this simple solution, anyone with an Airtel line in Uganda can now access global digital services without ever needing a physical bank dollar card!
